Spatial dynamic evolution of environmental infrastructure governance in China
by Ke Guo
Abstract
The implementation of environmental protection strategy necessarily requires mapping the amount of capital stock of environmental infrastructure. Through the Weibull distribution function and hyperbolic age-decreasing efficiency model, the provincial environmental infrastructure capital stock in China from 1980 to 2018 is measured cautiously, and its spatial dynamics with the g [...] Read more

Liver fibrosis from viral hepatitis: advances in non-invasive diagnosis
by Jincheng Wang , Jinyu Sun , Tao Qin , Xiaohan Ren , Jin Zhang  and  Xiaojie Lu
Abstract
The stages of liver fibrosis can reflect the severity of chronic viral hepatitis and the probability of liver cancer. Biopsy is still regarded as the reference for staging fibrosis, but the invasive method is not suitable for first-line screening. In recent years, noninvasive methods for detecting virus-driven liver fibrosis have been developed rapidly, which mainly include bio [...] Read more

Forecasting Parameters in the SABR Model
by Li Chen , Jianing Zhu  and  Cunyi Yang
Abstract
We present two approaches to forecasting parameters in the SABR model. The first approach is the vector autoregressive moving-average model (VARMA) for the time series of the in-sample calibrated parameters, and the second is based on machine learning techniques called epsilon-support vector regression (ε-SVR). Using daily data of S&P 500 ETF option prices from Janu [...] Read more

Does Rocky Mountain Credit Union Competition still Affect Commercial Bank Interest Rates?
by Thomas M. Fullerton , Robert J. Tokle , Bryce Jones  and  Steven L. Fullerton
Abstract
Historically, increased credit union competition in Idaho and Montana has caused commercial banks to offer higher deposit rates to savers and lower loan rates to borrowers. Data are collected for the second quarter of 2018 to examine whether that pattern still holds true. Unlike prior studies, empirical results indicate that credit union competition no longer exerts statistical [...] Read more

A Study of Hierarchical Risk Parity in Portfolio Construction
by Debjani Palit  and  Victor R. Prybutok
Abstract
The construction and optimization of a portfolio is a complex process that has been a historically active research area in finance. For portfolios with highly correlated assets, the performance of traditional risk-based asset allocations methods such as the mean-variance (MV) model is limited when numerous assets are correlated. Abstract
The Oswald hypothesis is that home ownership reduces mobility and through that channel results in poorer labor market outcomes. There has been only limited previous evidence on the Australian case. Here we use data from the first four Australian censuses of the twenty-first century, aggregated at the smallest geographical areas for which statistics are released. We propose test [...] Read more

Vector Error Correction Models with Stationary and Nonstationary Variables
by Pu Chen
Abstract
Vector Error Correction Models (VECM) have become a standard tool in empirical economics for analyzing nonstationary time series data because they integrate two key concepts in economics: equilibrium and dynamic adjustment in a single model. The current standard VECM procedure is limited to time series data with the same degree of integration, i.e., all I(1) variables. However, [...] Read more
